Bookies Stop Chester Betting

Bookies have stopped taking bets on Chester's game with Eastbourne tomorrow as rumours circling the club intensify.

Unconfirmed reports say that the entire professional squad have been granted releases from the club by the FA due to non payment of wages, allowing them to sign for other clubs outside the transfer window, and that both ex-Bull Nick Chadwick and Jon Danby - their only senior goalkeeper - are already on the verge of leaving. Fans fear that they may be forced to follow Weymouth last season in fielding a youth side tomorrow.

The rumours have sparked a betting frenzy against Chester. This afternoon Eastbourne were available at 2/1 to win the game, but most bookmakers pulled their prices during the course of the afternoon. Only the exchanges are currently taking bets on the game with Betfair having already taken 30 times the normal level of bets on the game at the time of writing with Eastbourne now around 2/3 to win at the Deva.

Regardless of whether the games goes ahead or not, the ground will only have three sides open tomorrow due to a lack of stewards.
